Armenia’s previous Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, who is appointed Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), met with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan.

EEC is the executive body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), which comprises Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

The interlocutors conferred on the avenues for the EEU development, the deepening of economic relations with third countries, and the strategy for the EEU organizations’ activities in the global markets. 

Nazarbayev noted that the EEC Board chairmanship period of Sargsyan is a difficult one in global economy, and therefore it will be difficult to find points of economic growth.

Tigran Sargsyan, in turn, stated that President Nazarbayev’s position is of fundamental importance within the overall strategy for the EEU development, since the Kazakh president’s initiatives and ideas are at the basis of creating a single Eurasian space.

“The Union bodies are assigned to thoroughly study the Kazakhstan president’s petition to the presidents of the [other] member countries of the EEU, and a respective plan is drawn up for the implementation of whose main ideas,” Sargsyan said, according to Kazpravda.kz news agency of Kazakhstan.
