YEREVAN. – National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who is in Germany on a three-day working visit, on Thursday attended and addressed at an international conference, entitled “Genocide of the Christian Peoples in the Ottoman and Kemalist Turkey,” which was convened at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
Within the framework of the event, Sharmazanov met also with co-chairman—and German Turk—Cem Özdemir of the German political party Alliance ‘90/The Greens.
The Armenian NA deputy chairman’s staff informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that Sharmazanov lauded Özdemir’s principled position on the condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. To note, Cem Özdemir is the person behind the Armenian Genocide draft resolution currently being debated in the German Bundestag (Parliament).
The interlocutors underscored the need for the Bundestag and the international community to condemn crimes against humanity, including the Armenian Genocide.
Eduard Sharmazanov and Cem Özdemir recorded that the ongoing Armenian Genocide deliberations in the German parliament have reaffirmed that the Bundestag’s condemnation of this tragedy is inevitable.
