YEREVAN. – National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who is in the German capital city of Berlin on a working visit, on Friday met with Vice-President Edelgard Bulmahn of the Bundestag (Parliament).
Sharmazanov’s staff informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the interlocutors underscored the taking of steps toward intensifying parliamentary cooperation and contacts between the two countries.
Reflecting on the strengthening of regional peace and stability, the Armenian parliament deputy chairman noted that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved through peace alone, and within the format of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group. Bulmahn, for her part, agreed with her Armenian counterpart, and likewise underscored the need for a solely pacific settlement of this conflict.
Also, Eduard Sharmazanov expressed he hope that the Armenian Genocide draft resolution will soon be adopted in the German parliament. The Bundestag vice-president, in turn, stressed that what happened to the Armenian people was genocide and it needs to be condemned. Edelgard Bulmahn added that the recent Bundestag debates on this draft resolution were a positive signal in the process of Armenian Genocide recognition.
At the end of the talk, the NA vice president invited his German counterpart for an official visit to Armenia.
