YEREVAN. – The secretary of Armenia’s opposition “Heritage” National Assembly Faction, Tevan Poghosyan, supports the proposal, according to which the country’s opposition forces likewise should send an alternative draft Electoral Code to the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) of the Council of Europe.

“The political forces, which don’t agree with the draft [Electoral Code] proposed by the authorities, should push forward a draft so that [solely] one draft would not be submitted for discussion,” Poghosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. “Since the mechanisms for arguing other viewpoints are weaker here, I think that today we need to be able to have both a draft and a package of proposals, so there will be alternative options in the [Venice] Commission.”

Tevan Poghosyan suggested that surveys should be conducted in Armenia, and regarding the ideas being debated, to find out the public opinion on the proposed amendments to the Electoral Code.
