YEREVAN. - The visit to Yerevan was very intensive; meetings with the Armenian president and FM, political forces represented in the parliemant and public representatives.
High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, said the aforementioned summing up the results of her first visit to Armenia.
In her words, various issues on the agenda of bilateral relations, as well as regional issues were discussed at the meetings. Mogherini noted that 2015 was an important year for bilateral ties, but it was also significant in terms of launching the talks on teh new legal framework for the development of bilateral ties in December 2015. In this context, the EU representative underscored the importance of the participation of the civil society in determining the depth and dimensions of the development of ties.
Referring to the continuing cooperation, Federica Mogherini noted that even in hard times, EU has been the No 1 investor and partner for Armenia.
At the same time, relations related to democracy, rule of law, struggle against corruption, human rights defense and legislative amendments developed.
In this regard, the EU representative touched on the importance of drawing up the new Electoral Code. Mogherini also noted that the EU supports the OSCE/ODIHR report on the constitutional referendum in the country on December 6.
Referring to the situation in the region, Mogherini touched on the issue of fulfilling the agreements on Nuclear Program of Iran and the Syrian migrant crisis.
In this connnection, she noted that the EU considers the issue on supporting Armenia, since the country has hosted 20,000 refugees.
