YEREVAN. – The model for indirect elections of the heads of major cities will be expanded in Armenia.
The Government Chief of Staff-Minister, Davit Harutyunyan, informed the aforesaid at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, as he presented the new draft Electoral Code of the country.
Accordingly, the respective model in capital city Yerevan will be used also in Gyumri and Vanadzor, Armenia’s second and third largest cities, correspondingly.
“I believe, subsequently, this list will be enlarged,” Harutyunyan added. “We [i.e. Armenia] shall go in the direction of increasing the political parties’ role in municipal elections.”
