YEREVAN. – Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Samvel Farmanyan, who is also member of the Armenian National Assembly delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has proposed to set a time period for suspending the activities of the outgoing members of parliamentary assemblies.

Farmanyan wrote about the aforementioned on his Facebook account.

“I proposed to call on European parliamentary assemblies, including PACE, to make an amendment in the rights of outgoing members of assemblies, and to freeze their powers so that it would be possible to avoid conflicts of interests with other members of the assembly, which we had in the case of Robert Walter’s scandalous report regarding Nagorno-Karabakh,” Farmanyan specifically wrote.

On January 26, PACE voted against British MP Robert Walter’s one-sided report entitled “Escalation of Violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and Other Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan.”

But at the time when this report was being debated at the PACE plenary session, Walter’s powers as a member of PACE were terminated.
