The Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia may apply to Strasbourg Court demanding to return its historic Catholicosate in Sis, modern Turkey.

This issue was discussed during the meeting of the Catholicosate’s legal group in Geneva on March 5, Cilicia TV reports.

The Catholicosate filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court of Turkey in late April 2015. The court didn’t take any measures during the entire year.

The Turkish attorneys also expressed their opinions regarding the matter. Due to the great number of cases coming next in turn, the Armenian side is afraid that the Turkish side will consider the case as “non-priority” and extend its consideration, since the issue is political in nature.

By the end of the meeting, it was decided to continue submitting memoranda to the Constitutional Court. At the same time, it was noted that after the lapse of a “logical period,” the Catholicosate will apply to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), which provides an opportunity for application after the “logical period” has lapsed.

The Armenian side has already started collecting the corresponding documents.
