YEREVAN. – The US House of Representatives resolution will not affect the activities by the Islamic State and similar terrorist organizations, the CIS Institute Armenian Branch Director, political scientist Aleksandr Markarov, stated.
He noted this commenting, at the request of Armenian News-NEWS.am, on the US House of Representatives’ on Monday unanimously condemning as genocide the ongoing ISIL/Da’esh crimes against Christians – including Armenians and Assyrians – as well as Yezidis and other religious minorities in the Middle East, by adopting H.Con.Res.75.
The analyst recalled that the targets of this terrorism in the Middle East are not the Christians, but the Muslims themselves.
And Markarov expressed skepticism that the adoption of this resolution may be a sign for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
“I’m confident that there is no connection here,” he said. “The Ottoman Empire is not recognized as a terrorist group, and its leadership is not recognized accountable for organizing the Armenian Genocide; they are not considered terrorists.”
