YEREVAN. - In 2015 bananas began to be imported to Armenia also from EEU, Artak Shaboyan, the Chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) of Armenia, stated, as he introduced the SCPEC action plan for 2016.

After Armenia joined the EEU in 2015, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs have emerged who import bananas from other republics of the Union. There are nine such companies, he added.

According to the SCPEC estimates, import from these countries is not as profitable as from traditional places of import.

“It’s important for us to ensure equal access and competition in the market,” Shaboyan added.

As to citrus cultures, the SCPEC has launched new research on their price formation. “The seasonality of these goods, which apparently impacts the prices, should be considered here,” he said.
