Chairperson of the Italian Senate Defense Committee Nicola Latorre has noted the growth of terrorist threat in the Mediterranean, in connection with which, according to him, it is necessary to develop a strategy for the common fight against international terrorism, RIA Novosti reported.
“Of course, our common enemy is terrorism, the terror attacks have intensified in Western Europe, and this is an alarm. We are aware of terror attacks being prepared in Mediterranean countries,” Nicola Latorre said during the meeting with Viktor Ozerov, the head of the Defense Committee of the Russian Federation Council on Monday.
According to Lattore, today "it is necessary to use not only military means ", but also "strategic political initiatives in the Mediterranean".
Senator added that "exclusively military operations without political strategy lead to the gravest consequences", and it is proved by a present situation in Libya and Iraq.
