YEREVAN. – The internal borders of the Schengen Area cannot always be closed.

The German Ambassador to Armenia, Bernhard Matthias Kiesler, noted the above-said at Thursday’s discussion on the recent migration to Europe.

The ambassador expressed a view that a Europe-wide solution needs to be found to this matter.

“We should exert all possible efforts so that these borders are opened again,” Kiesler said. “This also means that we need to do everything so that the external borders of the Schengen Area become as reliable as possible.”

The German diplomat stated, however, that the matter at hand is to prevent, through effective means, the illegal flow of people into Europe.

“We believe that this burden should to be distributed equitably between the European countries,” he stressed.

But Bernhard Matthias Kiesler added that the main task is to see to it that the Syrian crisis is resolved, and people can live in peace in their country.
