The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, has arrived in Germany on official visit.

In capital city Berlin, the President will meet with the top leadership of Germany.

Sargsyan on Wednesday met with the president Norbert Lammert  of the German Bundestag (Parliament).

The parties stressed the importance of the interparliamentary cooperation for the strengthening of Armenian-German state relations. In this regard, Serzh Sargsyan highlighted the personal contribution of Norbert Lammert.

“You not only encourage relations between the two parliaments, which form a practical platform for the full understanding of mutual interests, but also focus on issues related to the Armenian people,” President Sargsyan said at the talk.

As a testimony to his words, the President noted Lammert’s participation in the Armenian Genocide commemoration events held in Germany, as well as his statement at the special session of the Bundestag and devoted to this genocide.

Norbert Lammert, for his part, expressed confidence that the current official visit of the President of Armenia and his meetings with the leadership of Germany during his visit to Berlin will elevate the Armenian-German political dialogue to a new level and expand cooperation between the two countries.

The parties discussed also the avenues for the future development of Armenia-EU relations and expressed hope that the new framework agreement, which will institutionalize the Armenia-EU relations, will be signed in the nearest future.

In response to Lammert’s question regarding the constitutional amendments being conducted in Armenia, President Sargsyan informed him on the forthcoming developments conditioned by these amendments, and expressed gratitude to the German side for its consultative assistance to this process.

At the meeting, the interlocutors also discussed the latest developments related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
