VIENNA. - President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini met in Vienna Monday.

The meeting addressed issues related to the regional developments and current challenges posing threat to the security. In this context, the sides thoroughly touched on the growth of tension on the Karabakh-Azerbaijani Contact Line as a result of the gross violation of ceasefire in the beginning of last month, as well as ways out of the situation.

Presenting the position of the Armenian side on the resumption of talks, Serzh Sarsgayn attached importance to the unconditional implementation of the agreements on ceasefire and that on measures aimed at ceasefire reinforcement – signed in 1994 and 1995 respectively -   as a first step towards creating favorable conditions for the settlement of the issue. 

For her part, Ms Mogherini reconfirmed that the EU supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, expressing readiness to support the confidence-building measures in the conflict zone. In this context, the Armenian side attached importance to the visits o the EU representatives to the areas affected by the conflict. 

The sides also expressed hope that the meetings to be held in Vienna Monday upon the initiative of the foreign ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states will contribute to overcoming the resulting situation, as well as establishing stability and peace in the region.

The meeting also addressed the agenda of Armenia-EU bilateral ties, including cooperation in separate areas.
