Researchers of the Atlantic University in Florida, universities of San Diego and Widener studying the results of the major survey held in the period of 1973-2014 , found that texting among the gays doubled and a positive attitudes towards homosexuality quadrupled during that period . The article is published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior.

Sociologists have studied how social attitudes change over time towards the same-sex and bisexual relations and also have evaluated how many Americans admitted that they had a one-time homosexual relationship. Scientists have also come to the conclusion that approaches towards homosexuality are dependents on the age of the respondents.

The study involved a total of about forty thousand people. According to the survey, the number of men , which have had sexual contact with a representative of the same sex increased from 4.5 to  8.2 percent. The number of women has increased from 3.6 to 8.7. The number of respondents that had relationship with both men and women increased from 3.1 to 7.7 percent.

The number of people who approved homosexual relations from 1973 to 1990 remained almost unchanged and amounted to 13%. Then, it began to grow steadily , reaching 49 percent in 2014. 18-29 years old ( Millennium generation )respondents are more tolerant towards homosexuality . The number of people who approve homosexual relations among young people grew from 15 to 63 .

The survey results show that cultural changes of the past few decades has led not only to a tolerant attitude towards gay relationships but also assisted more people to confess that they had relations with the same sex. Millennium generation are considered people who were born after 1981 . This generation celebrated the new millennium at a younger age and is characterized by a vast interest in digital technologies.
