Officials of Mexico detained the drug dealer Hector 'El Guero' Palma, who had been recently released from the US prison after completing a sentence for distributing cocaine, Reuters reported.

The former partner of the drug baron Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the head of the powerful Sinaloa cartel, was arrested in the border city of Matamoros.

Palma served five years in Mexico's maximum-security Puente Grande prison. In 2007 he was extradited to the United States. He was able to get out before the end of a 16-year sentence due to his  good behavior and was deported to his homeland.

It is noted that the Mexican officials appear to be increasingly wary of Palma after the arrest of Guzman, considering his ties to the Sinaloa cartel.
