India wants to create a special ministry of preservation and protection of cows – the animals that take sacred place in the country's life, The Wall Street Journal reported.

It is reported that the initiative comes from the right-wing World Hindu Council which has already sent its proposal to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The parliament intends to consider the matter at a new session which begins in July.

 “Gou mata (mother cow) is the symbol of life, soul of our culture. She is not being given enough importance,” an official who did not wish to be named reported.

According to him, the idea is to save the cows from death. As a result, it will also increase production of milk in the country.

WSJ writes that the slaughter of cattle has been a serious problem in India for a long time. Especially it worsened last year when the crowd arranged punishment over the Muslim for eating beef. The murder sparked a wave of violence and generated debate about religious intolerance in the country.
