At least 180 musicians and music groups signed a petition to the U.S. Congress about modification of the Law on copyright of a digital age, RIA Novosti reported.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) are among them who signed the document as well as such groups as U2, Black Keys, Kings of Leon, Linkin Park, Maroon 5, and also musicians Elton John, Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and many others.

The document is aimed at the introduction of restrictions on the actions of a number of the websites (for example, YouTube), which allows users to upload and download materials protected by copyright.

According to the petition, the existing law of 1998 brought huge profits to the major technology companies, allowing consumers to download on their phones almost any song that had been ever recorded. In this regard, the artists' income continues to decline.

The musicians ask to carry out a reasonable reform, which will balance the interests of creators with the interests of companies that use music for financial gain. Only then users will receive really benefit.
