The UN Security Council failed to agree on condemning the latest ballistic missile test by North Korea because of China's position.

The U.S.-initiated statement was not approved because Beijing wanted to add a point on THAAD deployment in South Korea.

China wanted to include a call to the parties to avoid deployment of antimissile systems in Northeast Asia “under the pretext of protection against threats from North Korea.”

Moscow joined Beijing in criticism against the missile defense system, saying that it could be a threat to security in the region. U.S. and South Korea argued that the complex will be of exclusively defensive charecter.
