The US supports a negotiated settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We continue to engage actively with the sides.
Elizabeth Trudeau, Director of the Press Office of the US Department of State, noted the aforesaid at Monday’s press briefing.
“You know we’re co-chair of the OSCE [i.e. the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] Minsk Group,” added Trudeau. “Our longstanding policy shared by the Minsk Group co-chairs is that a just settlement must be based on international law, which includes the Helsinki Final Act, the principle of non-use of force or the threat of force, territorial integrity, and self-determination.”
The US State Department official noted that the responsibility for peace rests on the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“And we would reiterate their importance in finding a negotiated peace,” stressed Elizabeth Trudeau.
