YEREVAN. – No one puts pressure on the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia and its members, and the sole pressure is the provisions laid down by law.

CEC Chairman candidate—and incumbent Chairman—Tigran Mukuchyan on Tuesday noted the above-said during the National Assembly (NA) debates on electing the new head of this commission.

“Public confidence [in elections in Armenia] is increasing,” he added. “In my view, the number one issue of public confidence is the ensuring of full transparency, and for which newer mechanisms shall be introduced.”

The parliament is debating on the candidacy of the new CEC Chairman.

The NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs has nominated serving Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan to this position.
