The International Day for Disaster Reduction is marked each year on October 13.

Its objective is to raise awareness about the measures toward reducing disaster risks.

First and foremost, the international strategy for disaster risk reduction aims to inform the public about the importance of actions toward the prevention of natural, environmental and man-made disasters; reducing of their consequences; and the carrying out of respective explanatory work, especially in countries where there is a higher risk of such disasters.
