Mass breakout of 300 prisoners occurred from the prison of the city of Franco da Rocha, Brazilian state of São Paul on Monday, RIA Novosti reported quoting  Brazilian authorities.

Overall, 55 people escaped from the prison, but as Brazilian military police claimed the number of escaped inmates reached 300. They broke out of a prison psychiatric hospital. It was managed to detain only 18 fugitives, Folha de Sao Paulo noted.

The escape occurred after major riots in two Brazilian prisons. As mass media reported, 25 people were killed in the first case, but then prison authorities clarified that only 10 people were killed. In the second riot eight people were killed.
