At a rally, its motto being “For peace”, attended by 100,000 people in Diyarbakır, Turkey, Ahmet Turk, Chairman of the Kurdish “Democratic Society” party, stated that present-day Kurds are not the Kurds of the past. According to him, the solution is in the hands of Abdullah Öcalan, reported the Turkey-based Aksam newspaper.

More than 100,000 participants in the rally were most enthusiastic. The participants carried the slogans: “Kurdish problem will be solved through mediation” (Abdullah Öcalan implied), “The solution to the Kurdish problem must not be delayed”, “Kurdish people demand apologies” (Turks implied), etc…

Diyarbakır Mayor Osman Baydemir, who is of Kurdish descent, proposed setting up Monuments of Peace in Ankara and in Diyarbakır.

Ahmet Turk stated that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (Kurdish: Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan or Parti Karkerani Kurdistan), best known as PKK, and its leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is serving his life imprisonment on Ismali Island play a role in the settlement of the Kurdish issue.
