Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is developing a project toward helping Armenia’s viticulturists fight against grape phylloxera, FAO agriculture specialist Avetik Nersisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The project has been approved, and will soon enter into force.

Accordingly, grape phylloxera-resistant American species of seedlings are being obtained. These seedlings will be multiplied in special nurseries, and, subsequently, they will be vaccinated to the traditional local varieties.

Armenia’s endemic grape species are not protected against phylloxera, and the relatively safe option for their respective protection is to vaccinate local vines to the American species.
