The deployment of the US anti-missile defense in South Korea will complicate the solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and might provoke arms race in the region, said the Russian FM in a statement.

“We receive messages about the deployment of the American THAAD missiles in Korea. Thus, Washington D.C. currently in practice expands the geographical areas of anti-missile defense systems’ deployment,” the statement reads.

Such developments could have negative consequences for the regional and international stability. There might appear a new disruptive factor in the Asian Pacific region, which already has complexities in the field of security, that might further complicate the resolution of the nuclear and other issues of the Korean Peninsula and provoke arms races.
