The UN accuses Turkey of systematic human rights violations in the form of military operations against Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). " Between July 2015 and December 2016, some 2,000 people were reportedly killed in the context of security operations in South East Turkey,” reads the UN report.

According to the UN, Turkey’s army applied so-called security measures against more than 30 cities, forcing to leave up to half a million Kurdish civilians. 2 million people, including 1,200 civilians were killed in the military operations, reports DW.

" It appears that not a single suspect was apprehended and not a single individual was prosecuted,” said the UN High Commissioner Zeid al-Hussein.  “The gravity of the allegations, the scale of the destruction and the displacement of more than 355,000 people mean that an independent investigation is both urgent and essential.”

The conflict between the Turkish army and the PKK, which is listed in Turkey as a terrorist organization, lasts for several decades. The government refuses to negotiate with the PKK, defining its task as a complete destruction of the group.
