Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting in Astana will be another step to specify standpoints and exchange opinions, PhD on Political Science Levon Shirinyan told the reporters on November 19. According to him, such meetings are intended to not resolve the Karabakh conflict.

“We expect the problem to be tackled, however, it is not solved for the region to be controlled,” he said, stressing if there are not shocks in the world, the current situation will last for another 10-15 years.

“If we deal with this situation, we will benefit of it. However, we should be ready for a war and the conflict resolution.” The political scientist emphasized Armenia should not rely on external forces, but on its own strength.

Another political scientist Yervand Bozoyan stressed a road map on Nagorno-Karabakh is already being discussed behind closed doors. “Azerbaijan is extremely discontent with the current situation, that status quo is preserved and no breakthroughs are registered in the peace process. For this reason, it comes forward with new initiatives,” Bozoyan underscored.

“Azerbaijan does not consider the talks constructive and comes forward with new initiatives, which is not in Armenia’s interest unlike U.S. No such variant was offered by the mediators,” the expert said. According to him, the international practice shows if a format does not solve the issue, the problem is shifted to another.

According to Bozoyan, within the recent years, Armenia has become weaker in all respects, while Azerbaijan has got stronger, which demands dividends and speaks of new ways to resolve the conflict not to launch a war. Armenia thinks the conflict resolution is closer and justifies its inactivity by this. “If Armenia goes on like this and declares everything is good, we will find ourselves in the situation we were 20 years ago, when our country lost independence and 50% of our territories,” he concluded.
