Novruz Mammadov, Head of the International Relations Department, Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, is “surprised” at the WikiLeaks materials.

“Because they contain some claims allegedly made by the Azerbaijani President during his meetings,” Mammadov said.

He pointed out that he himself participated in all the political meetings the Azeri leader has held to date. “I also participated in Ilham Aliyev’s meeting with U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs William Burns. I would like to note that sides discussed two issues. The first was a settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the second the development of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations. I would like to point out the wing procedure of the meetings held by the President of Azerbaijan: at the meeting he speaks of Azerbaijan’s ties with this particular side. He never speaks of any third side or state. The same took place at the meeting with William Burns. That is there was no talk about any third side,” Mammadov said.

He stressed that such information on the Azeri leader’s meeting with the U.S. Under Secretary of State is surprising. “It turns out that the negotiator is later told about what he himself said. There appear to be forces seeking to spoil relations between different states. It is a dangerous tendency,” Mammadov said.

According to him, such questions on the threshold of the OSCE Summit in Astana set one thinking. “That is, this information on the threshold of the OSCE Summit in Astana arouses questions among the international community,” Mammadov said.

NEWS.am reminds readers that the Turkish public was excited over the Wikileaks-published secret document on President Alham Aliyev’s talk with U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs William Burns, February 25, 2010.

According to the document, Aliyev told Burns that he signed a gas contract with Russia to prevent turkey from becoming an energy center.

Turkish Premier Recep Erdogan pointed out that Turkish authorities are waiting for all the documents to be published in order to make comments later.
