No one in Armenia must consider himself above the law, MP from Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Naira Zohrabyan stated at a briefing in RA National Assembly, commenting on Armenian officials’ recent resignations due to their improper conduct.

She stressed improper conduct should always be punishable. “If the same happens in the future, these officials should be punished, just as several days ago. If such things happened in the past, they should have been appropriately assessed,” Zohrabyan stressed.

The MP emphasized the public expectations over the officials’ punishment were satisfied. “It is of great importance,” she noted and advised not to seek political implications in the recent staff reshuffle.

Referring to the resignation of Justice Minister Gevorg Danielyan, who was relieved of the post of RA Minister of Justice due to failing in his duties to respond to unethical behavior of Chief of the Enforcement Service, Zohrabyan said: “I think those bearing a direct responsibility for a misconduct should be punished.”

As NEWS.am reported previously, on December 8, Mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan submitted resignation to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. He had kidnapped and brutally beat an employee of the protocol department of the Armenian presidential staff Aram Kandayan.

Next day on December 9, RA President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree relieving Gevorg Danielyan of the post of RA Minister of Justice for failing in his duties. The point is that the Chief of the Enforcement Service committed a grave violation of ethical norms. The Minister of Justice was ordered to take necessary measures, which was not done.

At the moment, two likely candidates for the post of Justice Minister are being considered offstage, particularly Adviser to Armenian President Gevorg Kostanyan and Deputy Police Chief Arthur Osikyan.
