The fact that the U.N. General Assembly deferred consideration of Baku-initiated draft resolution on “Occupied territories of Azerbaijan,” is an achievement of Yerevan’s coherent foreign policy, Secretary of Republican parliamentary group (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov told NEWS.am.

According to him, Yerevan has consistently declared that shifting the format of the Karabakh conflict resolution to other international agencies is unacceptable.

“I think this policy produced results and international agencies found it inexpedient to discuss Karabakh conflict in other format. This accounts for UN General Assembly’s decision to defer the consideration of the Azerbaijan-initiated draft resolution,” Sharmazanov said. Meanwhile, the MP emphasized the position of the international community on this issue is similar to that of official Yerevan, which finally convinced official Baku of its unsuccessful attempts to change the format  of Karabakh conflict  settlement.

As NEWS.am reported previously, the U.N. General Assembly has deferred consideration of Draft Resolution Concerning Observance of International Human Rights Law in ‘Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan.

According to the information on the U.N. website, “acting on a request by Azerbaijan, the General Assembly decided today to defer to its sixty-fifth session consideration of a draft resolution on ‘Observance of international law and international human rights law in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan’.”

It is not for the first time that the U.N. General Assembly has deferred the consideration.
