Official reasons for recent changes in personnel are bewildering, Vahan Hovhannisyan, head of ARFD parliamentary group, told the journalists commenting on resignations of Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan and Justice Minister Gevorg Danielyan.

“As to Danielyan, I share Prime Minister’s position that he had to punish his employee for improper conduct. However, I cannot understand why another person, not the one who faced improper conduct charges, is dismissed,” he said.

Speaking of ex-mayor’s resignation, the ARFD leader expressed concern over press reports which revealed his illegal actions appearing after his resignation. “If press knew about it why they had not published it before,” Hovhannisyan wonders.

Commenting on mayor candidates, Vahan Hovhannisyan stressed one should not expect positive breakthrough as the problems refer to structure on the whole. “The problem is joining business and power. Even if officials wear white suits and bow ties the problem will not be solved,” he added.

Eex-Mayor Gagik Beglaryan had to resign after a scandal over beating Aram Kandayan, an employee of the protocol department of the presidential staff. The most likely candidate is Chairman of “ArmRusgazprom” Board Karen Karapetyan. Candidacies of First Deputy Mayor Taron Margaryan and Derenik Dumanyan, the head of RPA group in the Council of the Alderman, are being discussed.

Minister of Justice Gevorg Danielyan was dismissed as he “had not punished Mihran Poghosyan, head of the Service for Compulsory Enforcement of Judicial Orders, for improper conduct.”
