President Trumps’ administration is seeking ways to quickly strengthen Saudi Arabia’s’ missile defense system. This was reported in an article published by The Wall Street Journal.
According to the daily, Washington intensified its’ efforts concerning the regulation of the situation in the region. The reasons for this decision were: the arrests of princes and Saudi Arabia officials, “mysterious” retirement of Lebanon’s Prime Minister during the visit to Riyadh, and finally the launch of Iranian-made missiles by rebels who are supported by Tehran in Yemen, TASS reports.
As noted in the publication, Trump's administration is trying to overcome the situation of political uncertainty in Lebanon, so that the US and Saudi Arabia could focus on what Washington considers the most significant of the regional threats: Iran's supply of new weapons to its allies in the Middle East, including Hezbollah.
According to the publication, Washington, in particular, seeks to ensure that Saudi Arabia has the ability to protect itself from any further missile attacks. As noted in the publication, the Trump administration last month approved the purchase of missiles by Riyadh, the launch systems and radar equipment worth $ 15 billion. According to the Wall Street Journal, the implementation of the deal could be accelerated by the launch of the missile from Yemen in the direction of Riyadh.
