It is the U.S., a famous advocate of democracy, that should be concerned over adoption of H.Res. 252, the Armenian Genocide resolution, Turkish studies expert Ruben Melkonyan told the journalists today.

According to him, U.S. task is to recognize the crime against humanity, otherwise they will tarnish the image of democracy holders in the international arena.

“Unfortunately, at the moment relations with Turkey are more important for the U.S. than Genocide affirmation, as national interests prevail,” he noted.

He considers that one should expect concrete steps on Genocide recognition only when it meets interests of U.S. “Work of Armenian lobbyists is valuable but not sufficient. Certain circles of the Turkish society are holding discussions on the issue, this is one of significant results,” he concluded.
