The negotiations for settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be continued on the basis of the U.N. Charter, Helsinki statement and the statements of the Presidents of the USA, Russia and France in L’Aquila and Muskoka, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stated in his interview with ANS TV.

He reminded the journalists of the 3+2 statement at the OSCE Summit in Astana. The statement indicates the direction of further negotiations, he said.

Also, the sides go on holding presidential meetings as well as meetings between the foreign ministers. “For example, the foreign ministers held a trilateral meeting in Moscow on the Russian FM’s initiative. A relevant announcement was made. For lack of time, journalists may not be fully informed of this. First of all, we have to discuss issues between ourselves,” Mammadyarov said.

According to him, the sides go on working on the updated Madrid document. “The Co-Chairs first submitted the Madrid principles in 2007, and an updated version was prepared in 2009. Next year we want to reach an agreement if possible. The Co-Chairs submitted six of the 14 principles. Azerbaijan generally accepts them. The Armenian side rejects some points. We want to settle the problem and start working at a peace agreement,” Mammadyarov said.
