2010 showed that Turkey could not find the strength to honor their commitments and revealed itself as an unreliable partner for the international community, said Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan, in an interview with Public TV on the outcome of this year.

“In 2010 it became unequivocally clear that the ball is in Turkey’s court. You know, you can play bad football, but when the ball is on your side of the field and the stands are screaming at you and still you do not see it, this is another story. It is self-deception. They can only deceive themselves with this trickery. No one is convinced. From different capitals we hear one obvious response, that Armenia has done everything possible in its part, now it is Turkey’s turn to take steps.

They have returned to the language of preconditions, which was used previous to this process and which, of course, was not used during the process. Intermediaries and facilitating countries understand this and this approach is unacceptable,” said Nalbandyan.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Turks claim that recognition of the Armenian Genocide may damage the establishment of relations. First of all, it was the Turkish side that is the cause and is detrimental to the negotiation process in its approach, said Nalbandyan. “The international community is inclined to genocide recognition: Turkey’s attempts to counter this are doomed to failure” he said.  He added that if Turkey really wants to normalize relations then, as stated in the signed protocols and by the entire international community, – the UN Secretary General, EU, various other international bodies, and many countries – the protocols need to be ratified without any preconditions and with respect to the commitments made.
