The Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities should draw lessons from events in Tunisia, and people may run out of patience, Richard Giragosian, Head of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies, told journalists January 20.

The revolution in Tunisia shows the state of illegitimate authorities in case people is intolerant to them. Such events also show how self-confident authorities can be overthrown. Just six months ago no one could think such events would happen in Tunisia until the people came to realize the government was to serve them, but not vice versa, Giragosian said.

The events in Tunisia proved a message to Azerbaijan, a country a long way from Tunisia, but similar to it in many respects, where son inherits power from the father.

However, Armenia should draw a lesson from the events as well. Disregarding the people`s demands for reforms may cause a similar situation.

Giragosian stressed that all revolutions are unexpected. The Tunisia revolution had no leaders. It was caused by suicide of a 25-old street trader. Many people in Armenia have to keep their families by street trading, Giragosian said.
