Russian President Vladimir Putin urged not to compare the tragedy with the Il-20 crash in Syria with a shootdown of Russian Su-24 by Turkish military, RIA Novosti reported.

The recent incident is “a chain of tragic accidents”, the President noted.

According to Putin, Russia will provide additional security for its military in Syria.

“When people die, especially under such tragic circumstances, it is always a disaster, a disaster for us all, for the country and for our close friends dead,” Putin said at a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

A Russian IL-20 military aircraft heading to the Hmeymim airbase went off radar late on September 17. According to Russian Defense Ministry, the incident took place during an attack by four Israeli jets on Syrian targets in the province of Latakia.

According to Russian Defense Ministry, because of the provocative actions of Israeli fighters, who struck Syria, the Syrian air defense missiles launched a missile on the Russian Il-20. A total of 15 Russian servicemen were killed as a result of an incident.

The Defense Ministry blamed Israel, but the country's authorities have so far refused to comment.
