According to the government’s position, if this bill is passed, they will have to revise the expenditures, the work of public transport on those days, and many other things.
Vache Terteryan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Development, stated about the aforesaid during Wednesday’s debates at the meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs and Protection of Human Rights, and devoted to the bill with respect to making additions to Armenia’s Law on State Holidays and Memorial Days.
In his words, it will be more efficient and appropriate if the country’s government were to announce the date of Yerevan Day, as before, because this enables to ensure some mobility.
Despite the government’s stance, the committee gave a positive conclusion to this proposed law, according to which Yerevan Day will be celebrated always on the second Sunday of October—just as the Erebuni-Yerevan festivities were celebrated in Soviet times.
