Legal representatives of the successor of 57-year-old Julieta Ghukasyan, who had died after being brutally beaten in Gyumri on December 2, have filed a petition with the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia.

They demand that the Russian soldier who is charged with beating this woman be relocated to a penitentiary under Armenian jurisdiction, said Arayik Zalyan, an attorney of the victim’s legal successor, speaking to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

At present, this 23-year-old Russian military serviceman is kept at the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri, and where he was working as a driver and an auto mechanic.

The said Russian serviceman was detained by Armenian law-enforcement agencies, remanded in custody by an Armenian court decision, but handed over to the supervision of the said Russian military base.

On December 2, Gyumri resident Julieta Ghukasyan was ambulanced from a street to a city hospital where, however, she died. The woman was a cleaner who was working for the Gyumri city hall.

According to preliminary information, she was brutally beaten while going to work.

The Shirak Province investigation department had opened a criminal case into this incident, and on charges of negligently causing death.
