YEREVAN. – Head of ruling “My Step” faction explained the reason for today’s meeting with police chief in the parliament.

Valery Osipyan, chief of Armenia’s police, was invited to the parliament as the ruling faction is concerned over “increase in crime rate”.

The deputies raised many questions, including on the recent increase in a number of crimes, asking the police chief about the measures that law enforcers are taking to improve the situation.

Lilit Makunts said police chief named several reasons for increase in crime rate, one of them being an amnesty. Mr.Osipyan, however, emphasized that situation is under control, head of “My Step” faction said.

Overall, 581 people were released during the amnesty declared in connection with the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan and 100th anniversary of the First Republic.
