During a March 1 meeting, Armenia’s Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toghanyan and Governor of Irkutsk Oblast Sergey Levchenko discussed issues on development of the potential for economic cooperation, reports the Embassy of Armenia in the Russian Federation.

The parties stated that they intend to deepen the partnership and create conditions for growth of trade and investments and expansion of cultural ties.

Toghanyan particularly informed that Armenia was planning on opening an honorary consulate in Irkutsk.

“We need to enhance our ties, and we are disposed to work in order to advance our common interests,” Toghanyan said.

In his turn, the governor of Irkutsk Oblast emphasized that, based on the preliminary data of the year 2018, the volume of trade between Armenia and Irkutsk Oblast comprised $500,000.

During the meeting, the parties also talked about the establishment of contacts in the humanitarian sector, particularly exchanges between universities of Armenia and Irkutsk Oblast.

Ambassador Toghanyan discussed with the governor the issue of allocating land for construction of an Armenian church in the oblast.
