YEREVAN. – So far, we are only thinking about returning to daylight saving time in Armenia, and it’s too soon to speak about submitting a respective bill to the parliament.

National Assembly Vice President Alen Simonyan, who is also member of the ruling My Step Alliance, told the above-said to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, reinstating daylight saving time (DST) in Armenia will enable people in the country to save at least 10 percent in electricity consumption. In addition, as per Simonyan, this will reduce the number of crimes, particularly of thefts, because the sun will sets an hour later for several months.

The parliament deputy speaker added, however, that this matter will not be put on the agenda of the Armenian legislature’s urgent matters to be debated on, and that “there is no need for any radical change yet.”

By the decision of the authorities of the time, Armenia discontinued observing DST as of 2013.
