Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan has conveyed a congratulatory message on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The message particularly reads as follows:

“Today is International Women’s Day.

Today is a wonderful occasion to not only love, respect and care for women, but also talk once again about legal equality, protection of women’s rights, increase of the role of women, as well as women’s participation in public and political life.

There have been many bright women in Armenian history, starting from Queen Parandzem and ending with Sosse Mayrig, Zabel Yesayan and Silva Kaputikyan. The First Republic of Armenia was one of the first countries to have granted women suffrage and the right to get elected and had women parliamentarians in parliament.

However, in today’s society, sometimes women’s rights and freedoms are still subordinated and violated and there is even violence against women.

In the New Armenia, it is our duty to join forces and create all the equal conditions that will allow women to create freely and make their weighty contributions to the strengthening of society and the State.

Dear women,

I congratulate you on International Women’s Day.”
