The ratings electoral system doesn’t promote the development of parliamentarianism in Armenia. This is what Executive Director of the International Center for Human Development think tank in Armenia, analyst Tevan Poghosyan declared during a March 8 press conference.

According to him, when it comes time to amend the Electoral Code, it will be necessary to create mechanisms that will allow a maximum number of people to take part in the discussions on major issues.

“I believe it is necessary to create a platform through which parliamentary forces won’t be the only ones that will be able to express their positions. There were 180,000 people who voted for the political parties that are not represented in the current parliament, but those people are not represented in the National Assembly. Their opinions also need to be taken into consideration during implementation of the amendments to the Electoral Code,” the expert stated.
