Lori Lightfoot became the first openly lesbian and black woman elected mayor of the city, CNN reported.
She fought for the post of mayor of the city with 13 other candidates and won over 74% of the vote.
Lightfoot celebrates her victory with her wife and daughter.
The main priorities of the 56-year-old mayor’s program are to combat corruption and improve the social conditions of low-income families.
