Speaker of the Kazakh Senate Dariga Nazarbayeva does not plan to run for the presidency, RIA Novosti reported referring to kursiv.kz
The statement was made by political assistant Saule Mustafayeva.
Dariga is the eldest daughter of the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. She became a deputy of the Senate in September 2016, and took the post of speaker on March 20.
Nazarbayev, who led Kazakhstan for nearly thirty years, resigned as president on March 20. The head of state now is Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who had previously been the chair of the senate. Early presidential elections will be held on June 9.
