Algeria acting head of state sets new presidential election for July 4

Algeria’s interim president Abdelkader Bensalah has set the country’s new presidential election for July 4, RIA Novosti reported.

As per the respective statement, on Tuesday, when he assumed his office, President Bensalah signed a decree on forming an election commission to hold presidential elections on July 4.

As a result of widespread demonstrations, Algeria’s long-standing president Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigned on April 3, and he was replaced by president Abdelkader Bensalah of the Council of the Nation, the upper house of the Algerian Parliament.
