The Istanbul Convention implies broader mechanisms for the prevention of domestic violence. This is what lawyer Nvard Piliposyan told journalists today.

According to her, this also concerns the introduction of an education system for the public, as well as for law-enforcement authorities and social workers.

“Even lawyers lack sufficient knowledge of violence against women. As a result, we find ourselves in situations when police say women’s statements on domestic violence are not serious. It is necessary to rule out discrimination when it comes to state protection under the principle of gender or other affiliation. Experience has shown that there are many women who are exposed to torture not only in the family, but also as a lover or with another status,” she said.
