On September 2 UK Ambassador to Armenia Judith Farnworth hosted a farewell reception for departing Chevening Scholars who have been selected for master’s degree scholarships at UK universities in 2019-2020. The Ambassador also presented certificates to the eight successful Scholars.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one-year master's degrees – for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers.

Over the last 35 years, over 50,000 outstanding individuals worldwide have had the opportunity to study in the UK through Chevening.

As of today, there are around 160 Chevening alumni in Armenia, among them senior government officials and staff, members of parliament, influential civil society representatives and opinion makers, entrepreneurs, media professionals, staff of international agencies, and businesses.

Armen Avetisyan, Christina Soloyan, Gohar Shakhparyan, Marianna Vardanyan, Nerses Ter-Vardanyan, Narine Ishkhanyan, Sona Kocharyan and Zina Ghukasyan are Chevening scholars who will be studying in the UK in 2019-2020.

Applications for 2020/2021 Chevening Scholarships are open until 5 November 2019, with applications to be submitted via  www.chevening.org/apply.
